  1. I like that you’re sticking up for “stuff”. The right stuff, when carefully considered before purchasing, can absolutely bring joy. Often times, as you point out, that joy is stronger or onger lasting than experiences.
We had a screened in deck built this winter in place of our rotting old deck that we never used. I was hesitant to spend so much money but then the lockdown happened and now I’m so glad we did. Thanks to spending money on this very expensive THING, I get to experience the joy of relaxing outside bug-free anytime I want. Especially now that I’m home so often without much else to do.

During a staycation, I challenged my mom to go for a walk somewhere we haven’t been yet, to have a unique experience. It cost us the gas to get there, as it is a semi-local walking trail. We made sure to take a selfie at a gorgeous bend in the river. It’s not the trip to Scotland we had planned, but we were able to tell our neighbors about it and they tried it out that week. That wouldn’t have been possible with the Scotland trip.
We also spent time going through our postcards & photos from past trips, so there is the stuff component too.
I’m not anti-stuff 100%, but I really cherish and miss the experience of hanging out with friends and family. Sitting in a backyard with grilled burgers and corn on the cob, sitting around a campfire, sipping coffee and chatting while someone makes breakfast. For me the quiet moments can be the experiences too.

    What things bring me joy?

    – My favorite coffee mug,
    – My overpriced headphones

Honestly, I’m more of an “experiences” guy, but I respect where you’re coming from.
